Hello again, good news is that my mentor and the placement had both had the same thought about how I could offer more value to the placement so I'll be producing a showreel/film about what they do for them. So something to get my teeth into. I'll ...

DMEX Collaboration Projects

Running alongside the DMEX placements & our training programme, we've also been developing collaborative projects (DMEX Labs) - designed to get TV professionals working together voluntarily on innovative digital projects.

The first DMEX Lab project saw a group working together to create an animated short based on Carol-Ann Duffy's poem, Education For Leisure. The team created the film using Moviestorm - a new piece of software that lets you create anima

Events for October to December - your input needed!

Hi all,

Hope all is well, and that you had great (if slightly wet!) summers.

We're going to be running more DMEX placements between now and the end of the year, so if you're still keen to be considered for a placement please let me know.

We're also about to start pulling together our events programme for the next couple of months, and as ever we're keen to get your input on themes for the sessions.

Education for Leisure featured on DCMS Cabinet website

Hi all,

We were asked to write a piece about the 'Education for Leisure' short for the DCMS's 'C&binet' website last week. C&binet is a high-level website that aims to foster international discussions about the creative industries, so we're hopefully finding ourselves in good company!

My DMEX placement

How do you start a blog? With a question maybe? Seems to be more creative than a simple "Hello!" Having never started a blog before I wonder if there is a standard etiquette to blogging. If there is, I don't know about it, so I'll carry on in blissful ignorance. Maybe I'll look into it for my next blog.

SO, I'm pleased to say that I've just completed my 7th day with SKV in Manchester, and overall things have been going well. A friendly bunch of people, with a brand n… Continue

Ephemeral Media conference, 23-24 June, Nottingham

I was really lucky as one of the only non-academics to get an invite to a conference called Ephemeral Media last week at University of Nottingham. It featured a lot of discussion on user generated content, online films and interactive drama, including a keynote from our own Hugh Hancock, exec producer of the DMEX Education for Leisure film, and Rik Lander, the producer of several seminal online dramas includin… Continue

How we made “Education for Leisure”, a Moviestorm machinima film

I'd be really pleased if you have a look at this film that I've been involved in producing since February this year, a machinima interpretation of Carol Ann Duffy (the recently appointed Poet Laureate)'s controversial poem "Education for Leisure".

DMEX training event 27th May 2009: Social Media Changes Everything

On a wet Wednesday afternoon in the midst of Man U's euro cup final, 20 media freelancers gathered in The Princess, Portland St, Manchester for another informative training session on the latest thinking in cross-platform media and how digital technologies are affecting media freelancers in the North West.

After a viewing of the very interesting machinima film Education for Leisure, a collaboration project which was part of the DMEX training project.… Continue
